Mastering the Digital Classroom: Navigating Online Teaching Excellence

Join us for a fast-paced, hands-on workshop designed to elevate your online teaching skills at both the masters' and undergraduate levels. This program addresses key challenges and opportunities in the digital classroom, equipping you with practical strategies to enhance your teaching effectiveness. Guided discussion and opportunities for self-reflection will be incorporated throughout the workshop. You’ll leave with practical strategies for immediate implementation in your online classroom. Don’t miss this chance to network and transform your online teaching practices. 


Presenters will include Drs. Mónica Colón-Aguirre, Eric Ely, Daniella Smith. The session will include the following topics.


Welcome: Learn who is the session. (10 minutes)

Creating Assignment Instructions and Rubrics: The following segment delves into the topic of designing assignment instructions and rubrics. It emphasizes the significance of creating meaningful assignments that merge theory and practice, and the role of rubrics in streamlining the grading process. (35 minutes)

Ensuring Academic Rigor with Empathy: Discover how to create course policies that balance flexibility and academic rigor. (30 minutes)
Break- 15 minutes

Fostering Participation and Accessibility in the Online Environment: Explore techniques to foster engagement and create a sense of community in virtual classrooms while designing inclusive courses. (30 minutes)

Handling Plagiarism During the AI Era: Discover how to integrate AI effectively in the classroom while maintaining academic integrity and preventing plagiarism. (30 minutes)
Break- 15 minutes

Implementing Principles of Culturally Competent Teaching- Enhance learning opportunities by embracing students' cultural capital through the implementation of culturally competent teaching. (30 minutes)

Managing the Classroom Environment: Practice managing classroom dynamics through role-playing scenarios that demonstrate how to maintain an orderly online learning environment. (30 minutes)

Debriefing Session: Engage in a guided discussion session to reflect on and discuss the practical application of workshop topics once you return home. (30 minutes)

Closing and Evaluation Session: Evaluate the session and request ideas to implement during future Emerging Scholars activities. (15 minutes)
